Climate Narratives: Kunst, Wetenschap en Klimaat: samen naar impact

De laatste rapporten van het Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) onderstrepen de urgentie van ambitieuze maatregelen om een leefbare toekomst veilig te stellen. In het licht hiervan hebben de KNAW en NWO het Klimaat Instituut Nederland (KIN) geïnitieerd, een hybride organisatie van twaalf instituten met als doel om Nederlands klimaatonderzoek te ondersteunen en te coördineren voor effectiever beleid.

Op initiatief van de Akademie van Kunsten verkent deze sessie van Climate Narratives de stappen in de samenwerking tussen kunst en wetenschap, specifiek in het licht van het onlangs opgerichte Klimaat Instituut Nederland (KIN).

• Kunstenaars Ekaterina Volkova en Julien Thomas, en kunstenaar/filmmaker Daniel Frota de Abreu
• Liesbeth van de Grift (lid van De Jonge Akademie en hoogleraar internationale geschiedenis en milieu)
• Detlef van Vuuren (senior onderzoeker bij het PBL en co-auteur van het IPCC), en anderen.

Moderatie door Jeff Diamanti (Assistant Professor of Environmental Humanities).

Over Climate Narratives

Deze bijeenkomst is onderdeel van de serie Climate Narratives die zich richt op nieuwe verbeeldingen en perspectieven van de klimaatcrisis. De serie is ontworpen om allianties te creëren tussen kunst en wetenschap om mogelijkheden te stimuleren om te informeren, speculeren en affectieve en effectieve verhalen en verbeeldingen voor klimaatactie te creëren. Climate Narratives brengt kunstenaars en wetenschappers van de Akademie van Kunsten, De Jonge Akademie en KNAW samen met kunstenaars en wetenschappers buiten deze instellingen.

Climate Narratives is geïnitieerd door de Akademie van Kunsten, als reactie op het Klimaatklankbord van de KNAW (waar de Akademie van Kunsten deel van uitmaakt) en de webinar serie Klimaat van alle kanten.

Climate Narratives: Art, Science and Climate: Aiming for Impact

How might scientific institutions increase the impact of their research and what is the role of artists and creatives in this science-policy interface? 

The latest reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) underscore the urgency of taking ambitious action to secure a liveable future. In light of this the KNAW and NWO have initiated the Klimaat Instituut Nederland (KIN), a hybrid organization of twelve institutions with the goal of moving beyond the boundaries of current science practice in order to support and coordinate Dutch climate research for more effective policy.

Initiated by the Society of Arts this session of Climate Narratives explores steps in art-science collaborations, specifically in light of the newly-established Klimaat Instituut Nederland (KIN).

• Liesbeth van der Grift (member of The Young Academy and Professor of International History and the Environment)

About the series Climate Narratives

This event is part of the series Climate Narratives which engage with new imaginations and perspectives of the climate crisis. The series is designed to create alliances between art and science to foster opportunities to inform, speculate, and create affective and effective narratives and imaginaries for climate action. Climate Narratives brings together artists and scientists from the Society of Arts, The Young Academy and KNAW with artists and scientists outside these institutions. Climate Narratives was initiated by the Society of Arts, as a response to the KNAW's Climate Sounding Board (of which the Society of Arts is a member) and the webinar series Climate from All Sides.
