Cross-fertilisation between arts and sciences

An artist awarded an Artist-in-Residence Fellowship spends three months at the KNIR in Rome working on a project that contributes specifically to cross-fertilisation between the arts and the sciences. The programme was established by the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome (KNIR) and the Society of Arts.

Fellows are expected to play an active role in the life of the KNIR’s academic community and to promote cross-fertilisation between the arts and the sciences there.

Residency period

The residency period is usually from mid-September through mid-December. The Artist in Residence receives a monthly stipend for a period of up to three months and is temporarily housed in a KNIR guest apartment.

Who is eligible?

  • Dutch artists.
  • Artists of other nationalities who live and work in the Netherlands.
