Marjolijn van Heemstra (1981) is a poet, writer, theatre maker, journalist and podcaster.
Marjolijn van Heemstra (1981) studied religious studies with the aim of becoming a conflict mediator. Before that, she rolled into theatre and now works as a poet, writer, theatre maker, journalist and podcaster. Her work explores how we can think differently about ourselves and the world.
Since 2019, Marjolijn van Heemstra has been writing about how space can help us look at the earth differently. Her essay for Philosophy Month 2023, Wat is de ruimte waard, was published by De Correspondent. The performance based on this book, Maankoorts, premiered in June 2024.
With her poetry collections and novels, Marjolijn van Heemstra won several literary prizes; her latest novel has been translated into eight languages. She also regularly makes podcasts (including Sør, Stadsastronaut, Als geschiedenis in je opstaat).
In recent years, she has been mainly involved in De Nacht-Wacht, a multi-year investigation into the value of the night. De Nacht-Wacht organises twilight sessions, lectures, night walks and the Amsterdam Dark Festival.
